Steering & Suspension Repair in Burnaby, BC

Clunks over frost heave, a floaty ride, a wheel that wanders. Suspension wear happens slowly enough that you stop noticing it. We measure the parts, show you the play, and fix what is actually loose.

Know the signs

It degrades slowly, so you adapt to it.

Most people do not realise how much their vehicle had drifted until they drive it after the repair. These are the tells.

Clunks over bumps

Usually sway bar links, ball joints or worn bushings. Cheap parts that get expensive once they take something else with them.

Floating or bouncing

Worn shocks or struts. The vehicle keeps moving after the bump has passed, which is also a braking-distance problem.

Loose or wandering steering

You are correcting constantly to hold a lane. Often tie rods or a worn steering rack.

Cupped or scalloped tires

Scalloped dips around the tread mean the tire is bouncing rather than staying planted. Shocks, almost always.

Leaning in corners

More body roll than the vehicle used to have, often with a sway bar or spring issue behind it.

Fluid on a strut

A wet, dusty strut body is a strut that has lost its damping. Visible in thirty seconds on the hoist.

What the job involves

Find the play before replacing parts.

Suspension is the easiest place in the shop to sell parts that were not worn. So we start by proving which joint is actually moving.

Shocks and struts

Inspected for leaks and damping loss, replaced in pairs so the vehicle stays balanced side to side.

Ball joints and tie rods

Checked for play against spec with the weight off the wheel. These are the safety-critical ones.

Bushings and sway bar links

The usual source of clunks, and often the cheapest fix on the list. We check them before condemning anything larger.

Springs and mounts

Cracked coils, sagging ride height and collapsed strut mounts, all of which change how the vehicle sits and steers.

Power steering

Pump, lines, rack and fluid condition, including the leaks that get quietly topped up for years.

An alignment after

Replacing steering or suspension parts changes the geometry. An alignment afterwards is part of the job, not an upsell.

The M.A.P. promise

Come look at it with us.

Worn suspension is hard to argue with once you can see it, and impossible to verify once the vehicle is back on the ground. We are an authorized Motorist Assurance Program service centre, and we would rather walk you out to the hoist than hand you a list.

Required, suggested, or fine for now. In writing, every time.

Suspension questions, answered

The things Burnaby drivers ask us.

Straight answers. If yours is not here, call the shop and ask.

How long do shocks and struts last?

Commonly somewhere past 100,000 km, but road surface and load matter more than the odometer. We judge it by leak and damping, not by age alone.

Do shocks have to be replaced in pairs?

Yes, per axle. A new shock on one side and a tired one on the other makes the vehicle handle unevenly, particularly under braking.

Is a clunk dangerous?

It depends entirely on what is clunking. A sway bar link is a noise; a ball joint is a safety item. That is exactly what the inspection separates.

Do I need an alignment afterward?

If we replaced anything that locates a wheel, yes. We will tell you up front so it is in the quote rather than added later.

Can worn suspension wear my tires?

Very much so. Cupping and uneven wear from bad shocks can cost you a set of tires well before their tread life is up.

Do you work on trucks and lifted vehicles?

Yes. Cars, light trucks and SUVs, including modified suspension.
